March is National Kidney Month, and GSDA is celebrating on March 29th with Beth Shanaman, RD, who will discuss the importance of early nutrition intervention to delay or stop the progression of kidney disease and ultimately build a path to better kidney health.

Did you know that chronic kidney disease affects about 1 in 3 Americans? Additionally, 90% of people with CKD are unaware of their condition! That means that early identification and early education about kidney health are essential. Chronic kidney disease is most common in people living with high blood pressure and diabetes, making dietitians a key provider interacting with those most at risk for CKD.

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases celebrates National Kidney Month, and this year they focus on building paths to better kidney health for all Americans. Read more about current kidney research and download the National Kidney Month toolkit from the NIDDK website.

Beth Shanaman, RD is the manager of Nutrition and Fitness at the Northwest Kidney Center.
