A Message From Our Incoming President
Hi I’m Jeani, your new GSDA president, and I’m so excited to work with you to help you learn, network and grow this year! I’m a new mom and a women’s health dietitian with a private practice dedicated to helping women manage hormonal conditions. After years of working on your GSDA marketing team, I’m stepping up to lead this year.
I’m particularly passionate about furthering our profession, getting better compensation and recognition for dietitians. So, how does this translate to what we do at the GSDA? It’s all in our member benefits and our day to day activities:
Virtual CE Events – We’ve decided to keep the webinar format for our CE events. That way dietitians, students and interns can tune in from near and far, and you can get your CE from the comfort of your own home. We always cover both public health and community nutrition topics as well as clinical topics throughout the lifespan.
In-Person Networking Events – Yup, we’re bringing back in-person networking events. With Covid safety in mind, we hosted an in-person student event this past June in Gasworks park. It was so lovely to connect in person for the first time in 2 years over tasty bites and drinks. We plan to continue to host regular networking events to help you meet up with fellow dietitians, diet techs, students and interns. We know the relationships you build at these events can result in mentorship, collaboration and inspiration, so we think it’s important to continue to bring them to you.
All-inclusive Membership Model – we’ll continue to use our all inclusive membership model this year, which means ALL of our events are included in your membership! This is a really excellent deal on CE credits along with all the other career growth opportunities we provide!
Member Newsletter & Social Media – We include in-depth tips and ideas for dietitians in our member newsletter, which comes out every other month! Plus, we include a delicious recipe you can use for yourself or clients, Academy updates and more! If that’s not enough, we stay in touch through social media on Instagram and Facebook. Join our community.
A Commitment to Diversity and Equity – Our diversity committee is dedicated to helping BIPOC folks join our profession and elevating those who are already in our profession. We do this through education and reaching out to communities of color. If that’s not enough, we’re doing a member survey this year to find out what you want. Check your inbox for a brief questionnaire on what you want to get out of the GSDA. We’re here to serve our Seattle area dietetics community, and we want to hear from you! Help shape the direction we go and the services we provide by replying.
