Meet the Board: Alyssa Siegel

This is the latest post in our “Meet the Board” series. Each Monday, we’ll feature one of our 2017-18 board members, not stopping until we run out of board members (in late January).

Alyssa SiegelI am a current dietetic intern at Bastyr University and recently finished my master’s degree there as well—I just never want to leave! I am a transplant from Southern California but have fallen in love with Seattle over the years. With so many exciting opportunities to try new food and be outside, Seattle has been the perfect home. Some of my clinical interests include oncology care and sports nutrition. As a dietetic intern and new board member, I look forward to having so many new experiences through my rotations and becoming more involved in the Seattle dietetics community.

Favorite food: Classic roast chicken—pair it with some roasted veggies and a potato dish and I am a happy camper. It is something so simple but also so comforting. After the meal I make my own chicken stock to have on hand, the dinner that keeps on giving!

Favorite form of physical activity: I am always looking for new and fun ways to move—I love going to classes for that extra push and motivation. Some of my current favorite classes are kickboxing and yoga sculpt, perfect for warming up as the days get colder. I also love when I can get outside for some fresh air, running and hiking are simple joys that feel good for my body and my mind.

Hiking in New Zealand

Favorite travel destination: Can I say all of Europe? There is such a rich history, I love exploring new cities and immersing myself in new cultures. I have been fortunate to visit so many beautiful and interesting places and can’t wait to travel more, Scandinavia is on my bucket list. Paris always steals my heart—the food and wine, the museums, the fashion, the people—how could it not?

Favorite food city: New York (this actually ties for a favorite travel destination as well). There is always so much excitement in the city and that spills right over to its food. From amazing restaurants by acclaimed chefs to late night pierogis and the best bagels ever, there is always something delicious to eat in NYC.

Favorite hobby: I love to be in the kitchen, so cooking and baking are some of my favorite things to do. Trying new and extravagant recipes is just as much fun as whipping up a simple batch of chocolate chip cookies. It is most fun for me to share these creations with family and friends, dinner and holiday parties are my jam!

Making croissants in Paris!

Something most people don’t know about me: My undergraduate degree is in Music Industry, so I used to be involved in a lot of concert and event production. I was never much of a performer myself but have always absolutely loved the performing arts and am passionate about arts education in schools. Definitely a big switch going from music business to nutrition! Though I no longer work in that realm, I still love going to the theater and ballet, seeing musicals, and going to concerts.
